Our meetings for
the 20010/11 season start in October 2010.
13th
Oct - STEAM DOWN UNDER. by Vic Burgess
As
this
is
the first meeting of the season, and attendance can sometimes
be low, I decided to do something myself. I have made several trips
to Australia and have made a point of seeking out anything of model
engineering interest and I hope that I can interest members in an
illustrated talk on what goes on ‘Down Under’!
27th
October ANNUAL GENERAL
MEETING
Perhaps
the
main
item on the agenda for this year will be to vote in a new
chairman as Brian Tilbury is retiring after probably the longest
serving
chairman in the clubs history. I hope that there will be a good
attendance as I am sure that we would all like to thank Brian for his
long service to the society as
he has steered the society through some difficult periods.
10th
November- THE HARROW & WEMBLEY S.M.E THROUGH THE YEARS. by
Eric Basire
Most
of
us
will remember Eric who arranged our evening meetings so well for some
years. He
has taken an interest in the history of the Kenton Miniature Railway
and also our own club as for some time the society was closely
associated with this miniature railway having had its first track in
the same site and also held its meetings on its premises.
As
next
year
will be our 75th
year he has kindly agreed to return to give us a talk on the clubs
history over the years.
24th
November - A LIGHT HEARTED TALK ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF RAILWAY
SIGNALLING. by Mr John Willcot
Mr
John
Willock who is a retired Railway employee. Like
many who worked for the railway he has taken an interest in its
history and development. His talk on
this subject will be illustrated with good, old fashioned, slides.
8th
December – THE HISTORY OF THE LONDON UNDERGROUND. by Mr Alan Hooper
Mr
Alan
Hooper is
another
retired long term employee of the railway. Alan has taken a
particular interest in the London Underground and his talk is not so
much about the technical side of the underground but more about the
background to its development and some of the people who have been
involved in its progress. This is a fairly ‘lightweight’ talk,
and with Christmas approaching, I thought it may be suitable for
wives, sweethearts and mistresses to come and join us.
Happy
Christmas to all
our readers!
As
well as external speakers, it is hoped that some of the evenings will
have a short talk from a member.
